For the Remix assignment i have chosen to remix Wil Poveys song Stephanie. I chose this song because i really like the arrangement of the rough plucked guitar, the husky spoken word style singing and the double bass. It is the complete opposite style of EDM and i thought it would be a good challenge to convert this into something more upbeat while still retaining the meaning and passion behind the song.

For my remix i pulled inspiration from artists like Joey Pecoraro where the lines between EDM and classical music are a little blurred. It has a strong beat but contains very organic sounds and has a lot of swing and rhythm. Someone who is a fan of classical music wouldn't classify this music as classical but someone who is a fan of EDM wouldn't classify it is EDM either. It is stuck between the two genres. Although my song isn't similar in sound to Joey Pecoraro i was trying to create an EDM track that contained a lot of organic sounds while still being in the EDM genre.

When creating the song i used the audio from the recorded guitar in the sampler to create a choppy, echo rhythm based around the chord progression of the original track. I put the sampler on slice mode with a fade in and fade out to stop it clicking when you trigger a sample. After this i played around with some synths and settled on a piano line for the intro of the track. From there i created a drum track and some stabby basslines for the chorus and and a evolving synth for the melody. During production i gave what had made so far to the artist to receive feedback and they informed me that they liked the way i kept the feel of the track without making it too dancy. He suggested a few things about the introduction like not making it so long so i took his advice and cut it back and i am happy he suggested it. I didn't use much of the vocals because both vocals and guitar were recorded at the same time, meaning there was a lot of guitar spill in the vocal recording and it didn’t suit the sound i was after. I ended up using a backing vocal that was recorded clean.
