Having a large social media presence can have a great impact on your career and create opportunities for you that otherwise would have never happened. Obviously having many social media platforms is the best way to reach as many people as possible. But some of the downsides to relying on social media for your professional exposure can be disheartening.

The first downside that comes to mind with social media is the negative feedback that you can receive. Taking criticism can be hard but when it is done in such an informal way through social media it can sometimes feel like you are being publicly attacked.
Another thing that I am worried about, especially for my generation that has grown up with social media. Everything about my life has been recoded online somewhere since I was 13 and most of what was said or done is not my views or opinions now as a 20 year old. I am pretty confident that 6 years from now I will also be cringing over some of the things that I say now. I am worried that something that I sad when I was a teenager could be taken out of context and make me look bad or unprofessional. I think their needs to be a real shift in the way we look at what people say and look at it in the context, relative to age and maturity. This ties into my last blog about Tyler the Creators ban in Australia due to something that was said when he was 18.
